Someone said if you lack energy, you need to take some energy pills, which ones are the most common, that actually work, and don’t have many side effects——-please no fitness freaks answer with GO to the gym, I do, just to get that in

I I don’t believe anyone should supplement with iron unless they have been advised to do so by a doctor because they were found to have iron-deficiency anaemia. There are other forms of anaemia related to folate deficiency, or vitamin b12 deficiency. You could feel tired with any of these anaemias. However you may get other symptoms too with all three ….there is some overlap with symptoms [tiredness, paleness, breathlessness, palpitations, etc] but vitamin b12 deficiency anaemia could cause other nervous system disorder symptoms such as tingling and numbness.

Taking too much inorganic iron [as found in most supplements] when not needed or to excess could lead to symptoms similar to having an iron storage disease [e.g. Haemochromatosis] ….whereby iron deposits ["rust"] are laid down in various organs of the body….notably the skin but could also be the liver, brain and other organs. It can be fatal if left untreated given time….albeit a long time perhaps. Bare in mind that iron is added to most breakfast cereals and some other foodstuffs too so you have many sources.

Your tiredness could be due to any number of reasons. Do you get enough quality sleep. Are you over-working or over-exercising. Do you suffer from depression……can manifest as tiredness. Do you eat well. Are you vegetarian/vegan Have you had any infections recently. Do you feel tired at home or away from the home [get your boiler serviced regularly....i.e. once a year....to ensure it is not leaking carbon monoxide]. Any of these factors or many other factors could play a role..

You could try B complex vitamins…..best taken in a time release format. Try B50 strength and take one in a morning. You could also try one of the adaptogens……siberian ginseng, rhodiola rosacea or gotu kola… Some may derive benefit from beverages containing caffeine [teas, coffee] ….not to be taken ideally by those with a sensitivity issue or any medical condition where caffeine might be contraindicated [such as type II diabetes, ocular hypertension with or without glaucoma].

If it persists ….get a medical check up.

Well, the most obvious answer is to try getting some more sleep. If you’re lacking energy throughout the day, then that’s one of the ways your body is trying to tell you that it isn’t getting enough rest.

Also, you could try iron. Rather than taking it in a pill though, you should try getting it through food first. Food is always the best way to take in vitamins and nutrients.

For those who believe that pills are the answer to their health problems, the best pills to combat chronic fatigue is indeed those that contain iron. The B complex vitamins are recommended. However, it is always best to find out what the real underlying problems are. Check with a competent doctor before you attempt to self-medicate. You may be masking a serious blood infection or other problem that causes you to be constantly tired. Exercise is also a good way to fight tiredness believe it or not.

SO far none of the answers i read were correct.

The correct answer is a combination of a lot of things.

    1. Iron will ONLY help IF you have an Iron deficiency! Trust me on this. However, if you feel like you are Anemic, then you should start supplementing Iron, however, if you eat a lot of red meat, i would recommend you stay away from Iron, as you CAN overdose on it.

    So what is the best:

I would recommend a combination of a few products. They are safe, and extremely effective.

    B6 (Pyridoxine) – 100mg
B12 (cobalamin) – 1,000mcg (I recommend the Sublingual tabs- Dissolve in mouth)
Iron(ONLY if you have a deficiency)
    Avena Sativa- 800mg Daily
    Zinc Orotate- 10mg
    Rhodiola Rosea- 500mg
    Green Tea (Caffeinated)- 500mg

I use this combination on a verity of my clients and it works wonders. It also have many anti-oxidant properties, as well as relieves oxidation stress. This is designed to take together, in conjunction with each other. If you were going to limit yourself, the top 3 on this list would be:
    1. Green Tea (Caffeinated)
    2. Rhodiola Rosea
    3. Avena Sativa

They are all natural stimulants, and have a very smooth upper, as in yo will not get shaky or crash hard on these.

I recommend you get the entire combination, as it is not very expensive, and will work wonders.

Please consult a health care provider before consuming ANY products.

It’s ironic to me how many people come to THIS board of all places, asking for advice on pills to take.

However, the answer to your question is just not to blindly take some pill or supplement or "energy booster" but to find out why you are tired all the time.

If you actually are anemic (low iron) then maybe taking an iron tablet will help…eventually…as it takes about 3 months for your bone marrow to rebuild supplies of your red blood cells. However, the cause of the anemia would also have to be determined. Is it because of blood loss somewhere?(heavy periods are a common cause in women) or because you don’t absorb iron well in your gut ?(pernicious anemia) or you simply have a terrible diet?

If you don’t have iron deficiency anemia, then taking iron will not help at all, and may be harmful, as too much iron can be toxic. You may have anemia related to B12 or folate deficiency. If so, then taking a supplement will help, but again, you need to be tested and not just assume that’s the problem.

Other common causes of fatigue/tiredness are diabetes, hypothyroidism and depression. All of these things need to be ruled out. Then there are more obscure and controversial causes of fatigue, like Fibromylagia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, post polio syndrome (irrelevant unless you were alive in the 1950’s and had polio)

So the real answer to your question, is not to just treat a symptom (as doctors are erroneously accused of doing) but to investigate further to find and treat the underlying cause.

People are looking for too many quick fixes, and thinking that taking some supplement is the answer. It rarely is. People are also far too willing to advise varieties of supplements and minerals to people without due diligence….they aren’t a panacea for everything that ails you. "Freedom USA Fighter" (gag me with that handle…lol !!) starts off criticizing other answers as being wrong, and then rapidly deteriorates into his own unique version of wrong. Taking supplements without proof of deficiency is wrong and overly simplistic advice.
Any idiot can call themselves a nutritionist as it is not a legally protected term, only dietician is. Of course, any internet idiot can claim anything they like. You’re best to avoid advice from people on the internet. (that’s my advice…lol)

geez some people just never quit being rude and mean to each other …. highly unprofessional behaviour right there for you ……… please don’t supplement unless you know for a fact that you are deficient in same ….. the best way to beat fatigue and exhaustion is to eliminate eating highly processed, chemically refined, nutritionally void, man made good for nothing toxicsludge processed sugar ……… sugary drinks, junky sweets and candy, processed and packaged foods contain it by the truck load …….. and if you have a diet high in processed sugar it will just rip the calcium and magnesium right out of your bones ……. calcium and magnesium are essential for healthy nerve and muscle functioning, heart bone and tooth health and healthy digestion ……. without sufficient calcium in your system you will never assimilate your iron supplies effectively or selected B vitamins… both are essential for effective iron assimilation…….. alcohol, smoking anything at all and having large amounts of processed salt in your diet will do the same thing…. trash your calcium supplies and precious water soluble b complex supplies…… as will otc and prescription meds.

the best energy pill you can ever take is the one you don’t have to pay for ……… the one that entails eliminating poisoning your precious vitality to start with.

146 really really good reasons to not ingest processed sugar ~

Iron doesn’t do anything for your energy level. If you happen to have anemia then you need extra iron. Otherwise you don’t. It’s only function is to form hemoglobin in red blood cells which delivers oxygen to your body. Unless you’re medically diagnosed as anemic your body has all the iron it needs and you have enough hemoglobin in your red blood cells.

Taking iron can do more harm than good for a man, as the male body has no effective way to eliminate it. That’s why multivitamin pills for men don’t include iron. It will build up in the heart and cause heart problems if taken in excess. Your food has all the iron you actually need. In fact, probably more than you need considering it is added to just about all pasta and cereals.

The most effective energy boost is to take B Vitamins, especially B12 but be sure to include all the B Vitamins.

It rid me of my chronic fatigue problems. Make sure you get the Rosea variety. It’s been researched and used in Russia for many years now. I’ve never had any side effects from it – just don’t take it after 3pm or you may have problems getting to sleep.
